Evening

Flames
Sparks
In a blue fireplace
Logs hold embers
though some have gone out
or dimmed.
Brilliant shades of orange
yellow
pink
purple
blue
Cool grays
and the smooth, even black
behind the sparkling embers.
Puffs rise and smell of fire
carrying with them
that dead flame
known as
ash.
Warmth fills the room
except the very
back
corners
where it is cold
and dark.
One spark
Two sparks,
spit out by the fire
fading
in the corners,
flecks of gold
in the darkness
Sun sets
Turquoise sky

A sheet of paper (unsure of fiction or nonfiction)

Friday, April 16th, 2010

I am a blank sheet of paper,
Just lying here on the floor.
I am a blank sheet of paper,
Though soon will not be anymore.
I am a blank sheet of paper,
Used by both genius and fool.
I am a blank sheet of paper,
Who some see as only a tool.
I am a blank sheet of paper,
Waiting for something to [...]

My Birthday (nonfiction)

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

Yesterday I got out of my bed
‘Laynah stood there shouting by the door
What on earth was all this nonsense for?
Suddenly a thought popped in my head.
If today were just a normal day
Why would she be screaming in my face?
Why in that specific, single place?
I remembered: it was my birthday.
During lunch break, we picked up my [...]

I am so bored

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

You know, I always thought it was interesting how some people only write about out-of-the-ordinary happenings. Psh, yeah, not like that’s me or anything…
Well, today I am writing about something so painfully ordinary you may not even want to read it.
Yes, I probably should have saved the warning for the end.
Now it doesn’t even [...]

This is a

Song of a Stuffed Animal

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

I sat upon the shelf with a bow around my neck
And I tried to sit up still, and to hold my head erect
And I looked at all the children and I tried to look my best
But if you’re a teddy bear, it is rare that you are dressed.
After months upon that shelf I began to [...]

The Hat (by Sarah Gonzalez)

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

The lady walked into the milliner’s shop
And asked what the store had in store
He replied, “Nothing better to cover your top!
With cloches, berets and more.
Sombreros, and fezzes, and caps, and a beanie,
And top hats, and bowler hats too,
In colors like purple, and chartreuse (it’s green-y)
And red, orange, yellow and blue.
So many options, you may have [...]

Yes, more poetry

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

There once was a guy who ate chocolate pie
And would swim in it all the day long
But once, as he munched, his lovely pie crunched
Or at least as is said by my song.
The thing in the food, it quite startled the dude,
Who never ate cashews or walnuts
The thing in the pie, it disgusted the guy
Not [...]

Another poem?!

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

Yep.
This one was written for New Year, so I guess it’s ever so slightly late, but here it is nevertheless:
On the day of New Year’s Eve
The world is sitting, waiting
For the day we all believe
Has cause for celebrating.
Staying up till late at night
Watching on TV
Down pole to drop a ball of light
And then we scream, [...]

Not titled but not untitled either

Friday, March 19th, 2010

I turned an already-existent joke into a poem and, at the request of family and agreement on my part, I shall now present it to thee–er, you:
Sherlock Holmes and Watson
Were camping out one day
And after several hours, Holmes
Woke up and said, “Hey!
Dr. Watson, see the stars
High up in the sky?
Say what you can tell from [...]
